The Modern Salon Show

Nov 1, 2007-Nov 30, 2007

Nahum Tschacbasov, Four Muses, 1947, oil on canvas, 30" x 36"

A display of modern and contemporary American and European paintings, graphics, photography and sculpture shown with mid-20th century designer ceramics, metalwork, glass, textiles, furniture, ephemera and kitsch.

This installation evokes the ambience of a living room / salon filled with art and objects past and present. Great paintings from the mid 1930s are displayed with kitschy “bad” 1960s art; important mid 20th century Venetian glass is shown with Asian knick-knack ceramics; ephemera and memorabilia are juxtaposed with artist-signed photographs of the early Warhol social scene. The Modern Salon show encourages viewers to articulate and evaluate their personal tastes and formulate aesthetic judgments.
