Catrine Turillon explores the
intense beauty of the earth and life forms shaped by the forces of
nature. She is fascinated with subjects worn threadbare by the elements.
The sculptured surfaces of her acrylic & oil paintings are achieved
by the use of Japanese rice paper, modeling paste, twine and other
elements combined with pigment. The broken and ripped color-saturated
surfaces are simultaneously painterly and sculptural. Subtle details,
held by powerfully structured compositions reveal the dynamics of
natural order, chaos, destruction and birth.
Born in Utica, New
York in 1958, the artist currently lives and paints
in Boulder, Colorado. She received a Bachelor of Fine Arts
from the San Francisco Art Institute and studied Fine Arts at
the University of Colorado. She began her artistic career
in the San Francisco Bay Area, followed by painting and exhibiting
in New York City. Turillon’s
paintings are collected, commissioned and exhibited in galleries
nationally.
